_CONSTITUTION OF ALBANY COUNTY READS
ARTICLE I: NAME
The name of this committee shall be the Albany County Reads Association.
ARTICLE II: OBJECT
The object of this committee shall be to further the literacy of all residents within Albany County. By:
Section 1: working with schools, child care professionals, the public library and other organizations dealing with youth to encourage reading.
Section 2: providing books, ideas, and expertise in the area of literacy as well as reading to the residents of Albany County.
Section 3: encouraging reading as a lifelong activity through scheduled activities throughout the year.
Section 4: developing a schedule of volunteers to read to children and work with adult literacy.
Section 5: encouraging residents of Albany County to participate in reading literacy programs sponsored through all agencies.
Section 6: fostering an increased awareness of the importance of literacy and reading in the daily lives of all Albany County residents.
Section 7: coordinating activities of all literacy/education agencies within our community.
ARTICLE III: OFFICERS AND THEIR DUTIES
Section 1: President
A: Call and preside at all meetings of the Association.
B: Appoint all committees.
Section 2: Vice-President
A: Perform duties of the President in absence of the President.
B: Become President of the committee following tenure as Vice-President.
C: Assist the president in appointments to committees.
Section 3: Secretary-Treasurer
A: Appointed by consensus of the committee.
B: Record and maintain a record of all meetings.
C: Collect and account for all monies of the committee.
D: Issue a financial statement of the committee at the end of the fiscal year ending June 30.
ARTICLE IV: MEETINGS
Section 1: Regular meetings will be held on the first Friday of every month.
Section 2: The place and time of all meetings shall be by consensus of the committee.
ARTICLE V: AMENDMENTS
Section 1: Any amendment to the Constitution and/or by-laws of this Association shall be subject to a three-fourths (3/4) majority vote of the members at the meeting when the proposed amendment is presented.
ARTICLE VI: MEMBERSHIP
Section 1: Membership will include anyone interested in improvement of literacy within Albany County, as defined in Article II.
Section 2: Members should attend all monthly meetings.
ARTICLE VII: GROUP DISSOLVES
Section 1: If group dissolves all money will be distributed to on-going programs the committee has funded.
